Matthew Oliver Ricketts (2020)

Matthew Oliver Ricketts was a physician and politician born on April 3, 1858.  His parents had been slaves in Kentucky and he was the first African-American graduates from the University of Nebraska College of Medicine. He was also the first African American to serve in the Nebraska Legislature. Dr. Ricketts was regarded as one of the best orators there and was frequently called upon for his opinions.
